Typically there are several software applications that we use in the design process-<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drafting:<\/strong> We use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nemetschek.net\/\">Vectorworks<\/a>, a popular alternative to Autocad (which is the industry standard). Typically detail drafting is done in Vectorworks, which is well suited for residential landscape planning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Image Processing and Plan Presentation Drawings and Graphics:<\/strong> We use Adobe products Photoshop and Illustrator for image processing. We will draft a plan in Vectorworks and then color and manipulate it using Illustrator. Photoshop is used for digital mock-ups and image improvements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plant Selection:<\/strong> We use a couple of plant databases to help with plant selection.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plantmaster.com\/\">PlantMaster<\/a> is a regional California database that we use to select plants based on cultural requirements; soil type, water use, aspect, characteristics etc.<\/p>\n<p>We also use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.horticopia.com\/\">Horticopia<\/a>, a National database, with an excellent image library, so that clients get a good idea for the plants to be installed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Software:<\/strong> Some other useful software applications we use in the design process.<\/p>\n<p>Adobe Acrobat Professional- for client communication<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oclandscape.com\/ocblog\/archives\/2005\/06\/great_planning.html\">MindManager<\/a>&#8211; for planning and organization<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/office.microsoft.com\/en-us\/default.aspx\">Microsoft Office<\/a>&#8211; for a variety of standard uses<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/software\/dreamweaver\/\">Dreamweaver<\/a>&#8211; for web publication<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oclandscape.com\/ocblog\/archives\/plan.jpg\" alt=\"plan.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Plan Drafted with Vectorworks and Rendered with Adobe Illustrator<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oclandscape.com\/ocblog\/archives\/Mockup.jpg\" alt=\"Mockup.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"479\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Digital Mock up of Pool Wall using Adobe Photoshop and El Dorado Manufactured Stone Textures<\/em><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oclandscape.com\/ocblog\/archives\/Planting_pictures.jpg\" alt=\"Planting_pictures.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"253\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Planting Picture Contact Sheet Created with Plant Databases<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I get asked frequently what software we use to create and render of landscape plans.
